  1. Hi, I hope this isn't weird but I'm considering to apply for the YES abroad program for the 2017-2018 year for my senior year in high school, how did you like the program? and get the credits for high school and get ready for college?

    1. Hey Valerie! It's not weird at all! I'm totally fine with questions. In fact, I like to think that answering questions from future applicants is part of my job as an alum, so ask away! First of all, I'm so happy to hear that you're considering YES Abroad!! I really enjoyed the program overall, but as with any exchange program, the exchange itself has its ups and downs. However, it is TOTALLY worth it, and going to Indonesia was one of the best decisions I've ever made (I can't wait to go back one day!!). As far as getting credits for high school, I talked to my school as soon as I found out I got the scholarship. I ended up taking some college courses over the summer as well as one high school level class online in order to finish my credits before leaving. However, please keep in mind that it totally depends on your high school, so I recommend talking to them soon. You could even talk to them now and see what they have done if they have had students go on exchange in the past Also, don't forget that depending on the country you go to and your school's policies, your school may be willing to accept credits from your host school!

As for college, I applied while I was in Indonesia. Because that particular program started in August, it was difficult to get much done before I left, so I did the majority of my applications and all of my interviews while abroad. It wasn't the easiest thing in the world, but it was worth it since applying for college really is only a tiny part of senior year. It all worked out well for me, and I couldn't be happier with where I ended up!

If you have any more questions, feel free to let me know!
